The Spirit of Bacardi”, is what everybody knows from the famous alcoholic brand. However, many people ignore the advertisement of the product. The purpose of this essay is to give the analysis of Bacardi advertisement that is found in a magazine. The purpose of advertising is to sell the product to customers, who are adults or teenager over the age of eighteen. The advertisement use black color as the background with the picture of Bacardi bottle in the middle of the page. Beneath the bottle there is a brief history of Bacardi. The picture of the original Bacardi distillery and Don Facunto Bacardi, the founder of Bacardi are beside the bottle. After the advertisement has been drawn out, it seems to validate that it has made the effective form of persuasive due to appearances of the positive aspects.
The positive aspects of the advertisement are categorized into repetition, composition and association. The repetition appears in this advertisement, when the word Bacardi is being reiterated more than twice. This process is being done to ensure the customer that Bacardi is suitable alcoholic for them to choose. The compositions of this advertisement are formal English language and dark color as a background. The usage of formal English appears when the advertisement is explaining the brief history, where everyone can understand it clearly. The dark background represents the appearance of the product to look more exalted and sophisticated, where it lures the rich customers to buy the product. The last aspect of this advertisement is association. It links with Bacardi’s official website and links with “drinkaware.co.uk,” to shows the customers that the product is safety and reliable. Overall the advertisement is a snob appeal, where it makes the audience think that it is a luxury product.
Now let’s twist to the other side of the advertisement, or the negative aspect. The negative aspects in this advertisement are categorized into omission and diversion. The omission of this advertisement is the ignorance of the price and the warning. As everybody knows the alcohol is not legal for adolescent under 18 and too much of it could make people sick or gets drunk. This information is important for people to understand, so they shouldn’t omit them. the diversion of this advertisement appear when the statement, “the world’s first premium aged with rums” is emphasized. This little statement makes the customer to ignore the disadvantage of alcohol and more eager to taste or buy the world’s first premium aged with rums. Therefore, these following aspects give the negative side of the product.
In conclusion, the advertisement has the effective form of persuasion because it is strengthen at composition and association to show that the product is apt for the adults. Even though, it omits some of the vital information, but still it is an effective form of persuasion without any recommendation on the changes of this advertisement.
